Minnesota - Land of No Lakes

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – So we’re at the residence of my journo friends, Sirage and Weeden and we just got back from watching the Lakers-Celtics game at the bar. Cala came up short (that’s what she said) with the last post so I’ll get started with what happened since Chicago….

So after our night of drinking and BK-eating in South Bend, we roll up to the Windy City, find a place to park at Millennium Park, and what’s the first thing we see? A Puerto Rican day parade, complete with ethnic music and Spanish language Barack Obama signs.

We walked in the opposite direction toward the park and eventually made our way to the waterfront of Lake Michigan, walked around there for a bit then ventured into the city in search of some deep dish pizza. After some minutes of wandering, we approached a portly fellow who looked like he would know where to find some good food. He did. This place called Pizano’s and we devoured a pepperoni and cheese pizza.

From there, it was on to Madison, Wisconsin. We hit our first bit of traffic on the way out of Chicago when we got a little lost but we drove past Wrigley Field so it was all good.

Anyway, Madison was a cool place. We got there at night and didn’t have somewhere to stay. But first we wanted to eat so we did at this place called Hawk’s and sat outside on State Street, which is Wisconsin’s version of College Ave. State Street was under construction and parts were completely closed so it was like an open street for people walking. There was one dude rollerblading up and down the street with a hockey stick and a bright green hockey ball, doing spins and talking on his cell phone. Cala got excited (no homo). There was also a guy, later we found out to be named Art, playing a guitar on a street corner with a kazoo hanging around his next. Some kids walked past him with a raft and he said to them: “I don’t have any water but I’ll sing you a song.”

After we ate, we attempted to find a place to sleep. The first hotel we stopped at was too much money but the guy at the desk recommended another supposedly cheaper one near the cool as shit lake that borders Madison. We walked about 10-15 minutes over there. Turns out it was way more expensive. At this point, Dave recommended that we sleep in a church. But we eventually found a relatively cheap one-bed room at the University Inn. We got the room and went up to get ready to go out to one of Madison’s 36 bars, but we never made out to the watering holes. We were pooped from a day of exploration and the bed in the room, which could fit all three of us but we didn’t do that (too homo), looked very comfortable.

Next morning it was on to here, Sioux Falls. We walked around UW campus a bit, hopped in the Benzino and made our way past the floods next to the interstate. Along the way, Cala tried to hit a car next to us changing lanes but thankfully we didn’t. The southbound lane of the interstate was closed because of all kinds of rain that has plagued these Cheeseheads lately but the northbound side was open which was good. We made a left hand turn, crossed the mighty Mississip and I drove the length of Minnesota (Land of 10,000 lakes though we saw none). Another four hours we arrived at Sioux Falls.

Tomorrow it’s we’re going to the Mount Rushmore / Black Hills area. We’ll have a dispatch for all those interested hopefully if we find some Internet in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Go Tiger!
