INGLORIOUS BASTERDS -- I said it before in my review of Deathproof and I'll say it again: Quentin Tarantino is a talented director but he needs to learn how to write structure. That said, I enjoyed Inglorious Basterds. It's got some action, some violence, some beautiful women, a great bad guy, and some great dialogue. But... this movie goes all over the place. The first 1/2 hour probably could have been cut and we wouldn't have missed anything important. Then it cuts back and forth between a vengeful French Jewish girl and the Basterds, but because of that we don't get to know the Basterds other than that they're badass Jews and that one of them is an ex-nazi. They're interchangeable with each other. In fact, either the Basterds or the French girl should have been relegated to secondary characters so that the other could have been more developed. Then there are a couple homages to Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone (Tarantino uses some Good, the Bad, and the Ugly style music a couple time) but it not justified because there's no build up to the epic music. I think Quentin Tarantino just needs someone to tell him rein him in and tell him "no". Anyways, this is fun but sometimes frustrating.
G.I. JOE -- This was exactly what I was expecting. Lots of action, explosions, crazy vehicles, stupid dialogue, and tryna jauns. It's silly. But that's what GI JOE is. It isn't trying to be something it isn't. There were a couple shout-outs to the GI JOE toys and cartoon which was cool and stupid at the same time. They treated this film like a sort of origin story for some of the JOES and had flashbacks, and honestly, it was distracting. I don't care what their origins are, I just want to see them kick-ass. Luckily that's what we get later on. Bonus points for featuring the African drug dealer turned priest from Lost who has an awesome name that I'm not sure how to pronounce, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Also for making Victoria Secret Girl Karolina Kurkova not look very attractive. Look for a great Dennis Quaid moment when he says "Let's bring them home!" This is high above Transformers 2 and maybe on par with Transformers 1.

definately waiting for gi joes to come out on dvd... i feel that its that type of movie.
ehhh gi joe wasn't that great... they literally blew up everything. but the jauns were hella tryna
I thought inglourious basterds was great, and I'm not even a jew. Per is right that the scenes could have been shorter, especially the opening scene, but the movie overall wouldn't have been as suspenseful if the scenes were shorter. 5 stars.
It;s not that the scene were long, I actually like how Tarantino builds his suspense. It's just that there were certain scenes that could have been cut completely I we wouldn't be missing anything -- the first two scenes of the Basterds, the scene with the british commanders... the film probably would have been better had it cut to the chase sooner. Just the opening scene of the family killing and then go straight to her in the present. That would make the girl's character stronger and would put the Basterds as supporting characters, but we don't really find out much about them anyway in their 2 intro scenes so I would just cut them.
There was not enough killing done by the basterds (minus the end of the movie). I was expecting more guns, baseball bats, swords, and explosions. Janelle started yelling at me during the movie when the one guy got his head bashed in by the bear Jew. Haha. The whole too much talking not enough killing was in pulp fiction too, but in pulp fiction the dialogue was funny/ ridiculous, here, the talking got annoying and you were just waiting for something to happen (e.g. The beginning, the streudel eating scene, and alot of the awkward scenes between that nazi guy and the jaun.) the movie as a whole I was pretty disappointed in, but there were a bunch of pretty badass scenes (every killing sequence)
Plus!! Weren't those guns that the guys attached to their hands at the end sweet??? Yeahhhhhhhhh. Also, the whole Italian speaking scene was funny too
