HORSECUT EXCLUSIVE: Dueling Reviews Best of 2008: Director vs. Weatherman. The second in an occasional series.

Best Film (aka The Mighty Ducks award)
Weatherman - Iron Man (Walked out of the theatre and said that's the best movie I've seen in a long time.)
Director - Wall-E (A Pixar sci-fi robot love story. Better than Toy Story?)

Worst Film (aka the You Got Served award)
Weatherman - Run, Fat Boy, Run (Fell asleep during this one.)
Director - 10,000 BC (One of two reasons the flight to Japan sucked.)

Best Actor (aka the Clint Eastwood/James Woods award)
Weatherman - Bobbe J Thompson as 'Ronnie Shields' in Role Models (Little kid was pretty good.)
Director - Robert Downey Jr as ‘Tony Starks’ in Iron Man (He’s the cool superhero.)

Worst Actor (aka the Brendan Fraser award)
Weatherman - Danny R. McBride as 'Red' in Pineapple Express (There's a reason his character was killed off during the movie. He was really not funny.)
Director - James Marsden as ‘Kevin’ in 27 Dresses (The other reason the flight to Japan sucked.)

Best Actress (aka the Jaundis award)
Weatherman - Ellen Page as 'Juno MacGuff' in Juno (I really liked Juno.)
Director - Cate Blanchett as ‘Daisy’ in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Worst Actress (aka the Queen Latifa award)
Weatherman - I don't know
Director - Camilla Belle in 10,000 BC (But that doesn’t mean she isn’t a jaun)

Most overrated film (aka the Ray Lewis award)
Weatherman - The Dark Knight (Not saying it's bad, but I don't think it's as great as other people think. Of course, once Heath Ledger died, it became a cool thing to be a fan of, and that annoys me.)
Director - Juno (Tried too hard to be hip and quirky. And to be honest I hate people like Juno MacGuff.)

Most underrated film (aka the Ethan Kilmer award)
Weatherman - Juno (I'm a sucker for a good story with some meaning to it.)
Director - Mongol (A little slow at times but makes up for it with the cool mongolian action and good performances.)

Best Comedy (aka the Superbad award)
Weatherman - Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (Racial humor is always good. Best Comedy could have gone to a few movies.)
Director - Get Smart (Not as stupid as the trailers made it look.)

Best Action (aka the Rambo award)
Weatherman - Iron Man, Rambo a close second with 70-plus people dying
Director - Rambo (Barrett M107 .50 cal sniper rifle = exploding heads, M2 .50 cal machine gun = 236 person kill count.)

Best TV Series (aka Rome/Walker, Texas Ranger award)
Weatherman - The Wire on HBO and Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel (The Wire is one of the greatest shows ever, and Storm Chasers was the only one this year that I made sure I didn't miss an episode.)
Director - Pushing Daisies on ABC and Chuck on NBC (Pushing Daisies is a fun & goofy whodunit. Chuck is a fun & goofy spy thriller)

Special Awards:
Weatherman - Hottest Jaun of the Year award: Jessica Biel in I now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (This might be 2007, but she [and her fine body] need to be recognized [by me, up close]).
Director - Biggest Disappointment: Shine a Light vs The Last Waltz, or Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull vs Indiana Jones I-III. (Do I need to explain?)

Good reviews by both. I really liked Juno too. 10,000 BC sucked ass. Special Awards nailed it, Director- I can't believe they put fucking aliens in Indiana Jones! Oh... and I just saw "The Spirit", which I thought would be like Sin City, but it wasnt 1/1,000as good as Sin City was. I'd put that at shittiest movie of the year w/ 10,000 BC

Per, your best comedy of the year was Get Smart!? That movie was terrible. You're gonna put Get Smart over Role Models? Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Zack and Miri make a Porno? Tropic Thunder? Harold and Kumar? Horrible pick, Per. Also, Wall-E was not the best film. It was good, please don't put that up in the ranks with Toy Story. I would say the best film was The Dark Knight. I don't think it was overrated. Christian Bale and Heath Ledger did an incredible job. The movie was hyped up a lot and usually when that happens, the movie ends up disappointing but not with The Dark Knight. They did a great job concealing the Two Face character from the public.

I was disappointed with Tropic Thunder, but I didn't see Role Models, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, or Zach and Miri (but I'd like to). To be honest I had a tough time deciding Harold and Kumar, but I think Get Smart was more consistent. I have a soft spot for sci-fi. Wall-E hit the right notes, had a lot of subtext about different issues, and actually had some interesting themes. Yeah I'm putting Wall-E up there with Toy Story, deal with it.

i have seen like three of the movies that you guys are tryna review. My dad saw gran turino and said it was the best movie of the year by far so i'm gunna throw that out there. Personally i thought dark knight ws awesome. But batman is my favorite super hero. Iron man was aight but not my favorite. I thought that juno was gunna be funny but it really wasn't... that only funny part was when the dad said he was gunna punch that kid in the balls the next time he saw him. So that was a bit of a disappointment. I don't have a funniest comedy. I did see many but all of the ones I saw were weak. Harold and Kumar was better than i thought it would be so i guess i'll go with that

I didn't see Wall-E, so Per kind of surprised me with that one. Not really, though, I should have known.

I was never really into Batman that much so maybe that's why I'm not tryna with the Dark Night as much. Also, Heath Ledger is going to win like every award he's up for this year. He won a Golden Globe last night.

I'm adding Elizabeth Banks to my Hottest Juan of the Year. She's caliente.

And I want to see Gran Torino and The Wrestler.

Nice reviews, but some disagreements...
Best movie: Milk/Dark Knight
Worst movie: not Saw 5, not Jumper, but The Happening was the worst piece of shit ever.
Best Actor: Sean Penn in Milk... hands down. Heath is a close second though.
Worst: The asian kid from Gran Torino (Tao)
Best actress: Agree with Per and say Cate
Worst: Jessica Alba in Love Guru
Overrated: JUNO (dead on Per I hate that shit too) and Gran Torino (besides Clint, the lack of acting makes me want to kill myself).
Underrated: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt did this thing)
Best Comedy: I actually thought Iron Man was funnier than all the other comedies that were out. Second place would be Tom Cruise's performance is Tropic Thunder.
Best Action: Wanted
Best Tv series: Californication and Entourage had a decent season

Special Award would have to go to the man who made a comeback that no one saw coming. Jon Clyde van Dame baby!!! JCVD (initials) is a movie that killed in Europe about the real life Van Dame robbing a bank and everyone was shocked that it was so good. I won't give it away but it his best movie and he doesn't kick ass.

Also props to Robert Downey Junior for being a funny black guy in Tropic Thunder.
