Cancelled flight, Jewish Jordan, beach thoughts, Per, Rose Bowl prediction, etc.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Weatherman here. I have some extra time to kill because my fucking plane back home tonight was cancelled because of fog. So I’m at my aunts house in Florida for one more day and will fly back tomorrow with my parents, hopefully in time to see the Jets-Dolphins game (I’m rooting for Chad, but not the Dolphins).

Some things to share since I’ve posted last time: For my job, I interviewed this basketball player known as the “Jewish Jordan.” The story I wrote for the newspaper is here. He’s obviously Jewish and was pretty good in high school, good enough to get recruited by Maryland and be profiled in a four-page Sports Illustrated feature, where he got the Jewish Jordan nickname. But check it out, this guy is a really dedicated Jew, and doesn’t play on the Sabbath, so he turned down the scholarship to Maryland and ended up playing at Towson, because the America East Conference agreed to rearrange the schedule for him as to not conflict on Friday nights or Saturdays. He did OK there, was a starter, but ended up leaving Towson after his sophomore year because the new anti-Semite coach almost hit him in the head with a chair on purpose. Jewish Jordan now plays pro in Israel. He invited me there, no joke, and if I ever want to go to Israel I’m going to stop by. He wears a yamika when he plays and one of his proudest moments is when one of his teammates at Towson put the yamika back on his head after if fell of when he was hit hard at midcourt and suffered a slight concussion. I honestly respect his dedication to the religion. I couldn't do it. Skip, you have to be laughing at this.

Also, post-college life is wack or maybe it’s just that PSU was so good. I’m doing a job that I relatively enjoy, too, but man, that man just keeps you down. Every day, I’m leaning toward taking a boat trip to a small island in the Caribbean or somewhere and never coming back. First, I need to move out of the parents house though.

Thirdly, I got one of these Internet aircards with AT&T. So now I have internet wherever there is cell phone service, which is sweet. I got it for work because I have to quickly send stories from various places, but I’m using it right now at my aunts house.

Fourthly, Per. Weren’t you supposed to send me Murder on the Orient Express or was I supposed to get it on Netflix?

Fifthly, I hate to be a realist here, but I’m not feeling too good about the Nittany Lions’ chances in the Rose Bowl. I think the line is USC by 9.5 and I think that’s about right. USC’s defense is nasty, probably nine of the 11 starters are first-day NFL draft picks. I’d like to see the Nits pull it out though.

All right, that’s all for now. Hope you’re all well. Happy Kwanzaa.

1. Interesting dude, but he didn't look like I imagined him before watching the video. I guess I pictured him more as a basketball playing hasidic jew with jheri curls. 2. I thought you were going to pick out a new flick. 3. I'll join you on that island, as long as we each get to bring a jaun.
