I Think I'm Turning Japanese...

HI boyyssss!! :)

Looks like you guys had so much fun for homecoming weekend - I hope that there are more pictures coming soon, because I'm living vicariously through you for the time being. Of course this would be the season that would happen... right after we all graduated. Ugh. :)

Korea is still a blast - two months have flown by, and I'm really loving life here... especially with the US economy what it is. The cost of living is uber cheap here, and I'm hoping to save up a good deal of money. My kids are really fun and I'm definitely getting the hang of being in a classroom. My kindergartners gave me my "Korean name" a few weeks ago: "Shu Pa Gir" or Supergirl, so that's what I'm dressing up as for Halloween with them. A few random funny Korean stories:

1) Was asked by a random college student to do a survey for her at PIFF (Pusan International Film Festival, which was amazing) and we got to talking... her boyfriend came over and didn't speak English, so we started talking about him, and she asked how old I thought she was, and it came out that she was 24, and I asked how old her boyfriend was, and she said "Younger..." Which I took to mean, you know, 19 or something. And then she admits that he's 15, they start making out in a corner... all very bizarre.
2) Asked my kindy's to draw me a picture of a schoolbus the other day, and 6 of them draw very nice, normal schoolbus pictures - come up and say, "Maddy Teacher, look look!" and, of course, I exclaim how nice their drawings are... And then my seventh kid comes up, Bridget, who I've been harboring a suspicion about... I think that she's possessed by the devil. Anyways, she comes up with a picture and says, "Teacher, look! The bus is fire and bus driver is dead!" And sure enough, without any prompting, she'd drawn a picture of a schoolbus on fire and the bus driver lying out in front of it, dead. Very nicely drawn, though.
3. Had some of my middle school students write about three of their life goals, and the one, my favorite of all my kids, explained to me in eight sentences, thoroughly, of how he wanted to smoke "mareecheewanna" and float in the clouds. I have more respect for him now than ever.

No more great stories about the "courtesy bell" - the only one I've seen so far was the one in Incheon Airport, but I'm keeping an eye out. Will hopefully find some more interesting gadgets in Japan - I actually just booked a flight to Tokyo for Christmas - we'll have five days there, so I'm pretty psyched. Planning a tour of the Imperial Palace grounds, a trip to Harajuku, and just general mania in the most populated (and expensive) city in the world.

Miss you all, love to everyone, glad to hear that you're all doing well.

Supergirl??? You are terribly misleading your students. And Maddy, don't be Japanese; those people are horrible and most of Asia hates them. We just pretend to be their friends for the ayo technology. Glad things are going well tho!

:( You don't think I'm supergirl? Maybe I'll stay in Asia for a few extra months... at least they like me here! :) The Japanese do have some awesome technology... planning on stealing that (and a samurai sword) while I'm in Tokyo.
